Gallé himself was a keen artist and observer of the natural world. His glass designs are considered to be one of the major forces in the French Art Nouveau movement. His "Writings on Art" which was released posthumously in 1908 gives a clear insight into his design ethos. This example was produced before Galle died 1904.
I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department.
