DAUM NANCY Acid Etched Cameo Glass and Sterling Silver Traveling Liquor Flask w/original Box, circa 1900s. DAUM, a glassworks in Nancy, France, was started by Jean Daum in 1875.

In 1893, the Daum brothers began producing cameo glass, using acid-etching techniques to decorate with bouquets of flowers. This piece, sometimes referred to as an opera or carriage flask, is a stunning example that was h. Andmade in the lavish Art Nouveau period.

Highly prized by both scent bottle and flask collectors, these are frequently mistaken as a "lay down" perfume bottle and although they could be used for perfume, these wonderful bottles were originally produced as a discreet travel accessory for serving liquor or holding ones favorite "remedy" that could easily be served with the removable bottom shot tumbler. It features a conical or tapered body that is beautifully decorated with cut cameo bands & floral motifs, which are highlighted with accents of gold & blue enamel to the petals & bands.

The purple-rose background is acid etched giving it a translucent, chipped ice appearance. The bottom of glass was signed in gold letters but has somewhat faded over the years though still apparent are the D of Daum &, the Lorraine Cross, which was its symbol and the cy for last two letters of Nancy see pics. Allmarked with the French Minerva first standard mark used from 1838 to 1929 depicting the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her head to denote a silver content of 950/1000 95% pure silver which is higher purity than the standard.
