The interior glass is mottled. The foot shows the colors of the overlay glass clearly, a dark brown with streaks of yellow. The shape is one of a wide mouth body, with a round foot, a short neck. The vase is 8 3/4" high and 4 ½" wide at the bottom of the foot and 6 inches wide at the top.
The vase is signed Charder on the front lower part in cameo relief. It is also etched Le Verre Francaise on the foot.In addition, on the bottom, it is etched France Ovington, and the words are partially etched over the finished pontil. Ovington Bros was a high end department store in New York, and the third signature means that Schneider made the vase specifically for the store, so as an export to the United States. The pontil is large, round, slightly indented, and polished smooth.
There are no nicks, chips or cracks and very few scratches on the bottom underside, as expected with normal wear. This is not by Daum Nancy or Galle but, it is just as rare from the same period and of equal quality. This is a museum quality piece worthy and a must have for any high end glass collection.
