Large Impressive Daum Nancy Cameo Vase with Marine Scene
This fine, tall art glass footed cameo vase features a tranquil scene of coastal sailboats under a full sail in calm waters silhouetted in brown against an early morning sky with shades of orange within a mottled green and yellow tinted sky. The ships fill the entire circumference of the vase, and the overall surface of the background is additionally decorated with a quantity of tiny open bubbles. Signed in cameo relief Daum Nancy about the cross of Lorraine. His two sons Auguste and Antonin oversaw the growth of his business during the burgeoning Art Nouveau period. Beginning in the 1890s, the brothers began experimenting with art glass and continued into the early 20th century.
They introduced their cameo glassware at the Chicago Worlds Fair of 1893. A beautiful example of their fine art glass! Dimensions: 14 h x 3 ¾ diameter lip x 5 diameter base.
