Is an important and rare French Art Deco Atomizer Perfume Bottle by D'Argental, Compagnie des Cristalleries de Saint-Louis, first quarter of 20th century, multilayered acid-cut cameo glass, Landscape decoration with Lake and Forest of Trees finely etched to acid in purple tones. Signature in relief cameo "D'Argental". The cameo glass is a multi-layered glass on which a picture has been carved through the layers, so that it stands out in relief from the surface and the colored layers form the contrast of the picture.
The surrounding glass is cut away using hydrofluoric acid, which eats away glass. EMILE GALLE was a forerunner in workmanship of cameo glass, but at the end of 19th century or beginning 20th century many factories in France devoted to this working.
The experience and technical mastery acquired lead Paul Nicolas from Gallé in 1919 and to open his own atelier at n. 64 of rue de la République in Nancy with the company name Atelier des graveurs réunis; the signature chosen to be affixed to the glass will be D'Argental, a name taken from the town of the same name and from the river that runs in Alsace and Lorraine in the Valle dell'Argento. Cameo glass was made with the. Mark from 1919 to 1925.
