Legras French Glass Art Deco Red Cameo Bird Vases Spectacular Old Pair 20.75 Description and Item Information Up for sale is pair of large and spectacular Legras French cameo art glass vases. Please excuse any glare in the photos.

Each vase stands approximately 20 3/4 inches tall; the maximum diameter of each is about 8 7/8 inches (there is minor size variation from one to the next). These are a vibrant red color, which could be called pigeons blood or sang de boeuf, with contrasting dark spots and splotches. The decoration, which was acid cut, includes stylized birds and flowers. Dark enamel was applied over the cut motifs. One vase weighs 14 pounds 3.4 ounces and the other weighs 11 pounds 0.8 ounce, so there is a thickness/weight difference even though they look quite similar.

Beneath, the bases are flat, and each has a ground, central pontil area. These vases would be a fabulous addition to a collection of European art deco glass. Identification Each vase is marked on its side, below a bird, Legras. The mark on one of the vases is visible in Photo 1 (right hand vase). These are either vintage or antique, and the exact age is not known. The vases were made in St. Denis, France during the early 20th century. Condition The vases look very good overall, with no chips or cracks. They have light wear overall, with some scattered, minor scratches and surface marks.

The bottoms have more pronounced wear scratches and scuff marks, as expected for heavy, old glass. The interiors have some dark residue soiling which I have not cleaned. The bases have some light-colored residue which may be earthquake putty / museum wax. Mostly located on the shoulder areas of each vase, there are fine horizontal lines in the glass which may be tool marks or stretch marks from production.

As made, there are very minor flaws in the glass such as bubbles, indents, inclusions, and very small raised bits. Variations in coloration are as made.

Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. And international government regulations prohibit such behavior. Other Information Individual computers may display colors differently.
