Description and Condition: Far from the typical English cameo glass vase, this piece features a finely, precision cut tapestry pattern on what is called old ivory glass. Although it's unsigned, this vase was surely made by Thomas Webb. Consider that the shape with a lozenge cross section is a Webb shape. Also, Webb produced its Chinese-inspired tapestry patterns like this on its old ivory glass.
It is unsigned, which is not unheard of for Webb glass. This vase measures 7 inches high by 5 inches at the widest point. The lozenge form tapers downward to a round base 4 inches diameter. It has a ground pontil and is very stable. This vase probably dates to the 1880s, when Webb produced a very low number of Chinese tapestry vases on old ivory. Condition of this vase is generally excellent. It does have a few abrasions on the bottom of the rolled foot rim. These could be easily polished out but are not seen unless turned over. Absolutely no e-checks will be accepted! I will gladly do my best to provide you with any needed information, including more photos. Happy, satisfied customers are my goal. Final Comment: This is an exceptionally fine Webb cameo vase and I dare say rare! Please check out my other art glass, early English pottery and porcelains, ABP cut glass, antique glass, bronzes, pottery, and porcelain that I will be listing in the next couple of months. This area abrasion is about 1/64th inch or less deep and can easily be polished out by a competent glass repairer.
