As opposed to the more common two color c. Ombination of citron, red and white glass.. The Cameo work has been executed superbly! The artist captured the perfect balance between the red and white layers which can be challenging to achieve with this color combi.
Too thick, you lose the translucence and the relief ends up. Too thin, you lose the contrast and are left with a dull and lifeless image. Compare this with others of the same color combination (the last three pics) looking specifically at the quality of the shading. Ffects the overall appearance of the vase.
On many of these pieces, the colors are the same from leaf to leaf with little or no variation.. On this vase however, the. Artist used various levels of shading (more reduction or less depending on the desired effect). The shading differs from the leaf to leaf, and even within a single leaf giving it movement and a more life-like appearance; note the gradual lightening as you reach the base.
Slight variations of color and texture, the execution of the detail work and use of light and shadows to produce a more realistic image with movement, definition, depth and three dimensionality. The vase measures 5 1/2" H x 4" W and is in pristine condition. Although common on sand-etched glass, there are no scuffs to the smooth frosted surface. There are some scattered ash flecks - in the making and inconsequential.
