VIDEO Cameo Art Glass Vase Black White Branches & Leaves Mid Century Style Galle

Cameo Art Glass Vase Black Cut to White. The squat and fat shape with short neck design, suggests that this vase was made during the Mid Century Modern period. We were not able to find a makers mark, none the less, truly a treasure. The first inside gathered layer of glass is a thin white, then a thick clear layer of glass. The next and top glass layer is thinner black.

The black was removed with acid-etching most likely the traditional hydrofluoric acid. This removed the black glass not covered with resin, leaving the pattern of leaves and branches. This technique results in a frosted clear glass background that looks white with a visual depth to the actual under layer of white glass. The leaves and branches seem to be floating on the outside of the vase.
